Organizations have a difficult time attracting and retaining diverse employees
When leaders don’t have the tools or first-hand experience, they cannot recognize barriers their racialized, or otherwise marginalized, employees face.
Most racialized employees have faced some form of discrimination, racism, microaggressions and oppressive practices in their work environments: a poll from November 2019 suggests that 34 per cent of Canadians who identify as a person of colour have experienced discrimination with their current employer, with 62% of Black Canadians saying they ‘agree’ or ‘strongly agree’ that racial discrimination is a problem in their own workforce.
